In honor of Disability Pride Month, Keslow Camera is excited to announce our sponsorship of Inevitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The mission of Inevitable Foundation is to invest in disabled writers and filmmakers so they can achieve artistic and financial freedom and use film and television to destigmatize disability and mental health globally. This mission supports their vision of creating a world where disabled people are valued both on and off-screen.
Industry wide, less than 1% of filmmakers are disabled, despite making up over 25% of the U.S. population. This is where Inevitable Foundation has stepped in. Through their efforts, over $2 million dollars have been invested in entertainment and nonprofit disabled workers. 55% of their grantees are women and nonbinary people, 45% are BIPOC and 60% are LGBTQ+.
Through their Visionary Fellowship, supported by Netflix, Inevitable Foundation has provided disabled filmmakers with funding, mentorship, and community as they embark on a short film to leverage into their first feature film.
Keslow Camera is thrilled to support Inevitable Foundation across a number of its programs, starting by providing our top-tier cinema cameras, lenses, and accessories to five disabled filmmakers and their innovative short film projects, premiering later this year:
- “Beware C*ckblocking Ghosts” (Dir: Alys Murray/DP: Grant Bell)
- “Double Birthday Christmas Wedding” (Dir: Monica Lucas/DP: Rafael Gomez)
- “Bembe” (Dir: Zayre Ferrer/DP: Daniel Patterson)
- “The Hog Queen” (Dir: Katherine Craft/DP: Sebastian Valdivieso)
- “8 Tracks” (Dir: Filipe Coutinho/ DP: Garett Nicholson)
"When I was selected to be a part of the Inevitable Foundation's Visionary Fellowship, my heart skipped a beat. This opportunity meant that I was finally going to be in a position to bring to life part of a story that had been near and dear to my heart for the last 8 years. With that came all the exciting things of putting a movie together -- actors, visual palettes, locations, production design, costumes, and so on. But the truth is that when you're starting out, you don't always consider where the tools that make movies possible come from. My DP and I knew pretty early on that the ARRI Alexa 35 was going to be the right camera to bring our vision to life, but who was going to work with us to actually make it happen? Cue Keslow and their extraordinary team of professionals, who gave us their time and generosity, and allowed us to translate all the creative ideas swirling around in our heads into the images that make our movie so special. By giving us the tools and support we needed, we felt the freedom to be our best creative selves on set. It's without any hesitation that I say that Keslow was a crucial part of helping us bring our unique vision to life."
- Filipe Coutinho, Director, "8 Tracks"
"For a first-time director, the list of worries are endless. But with Keslow, their incredibly professional team, and high-quality equipment, I never once worried about the camera. Using Keslow to bring my vision to life was a dream come true, and made the experience seamless and creatively fulfilling on every level. My team and I could not be happier with the results, and the stunning visuals speak for themselves!"
- Alys Murray, Director, “Beware C*ckblocking Ghosts”
"Keslow treated my short like it was a blockbuster. The incredible equipment they offered us upped the production value of our project, making it look like it belongs on the Big Screen. Even though this was my first short film, I felt like a pro thanks to the caliber of camera gear we were able to work with. Thank you, Keslow, for helping me make a beautiful film."
- Monica Lucas, Director, “Double Birthday Christmas Wedding”
"It was amazing to have access to such a great camera, an ARRI Alexa Mini, for our shoot. They provided us with top notch gear and were available for any help we needed. With Keslow's support, I felt fully able to realize my vision for the film."
- Katherine Craft, Director, “The Hog Queen”
"Thank you Keslow for providing us with the tools we needed to make Bembé as bold and beautiful as we dreamed. Couldn’t have done it without you!"
- Zayre Ferrer, Director, “Bembe”
